Lauctrec in Illustration Style

So….this has been on my portable hard drive for YEARS! Just kidding, only a few months. After going through a few illustration catalogs, I thought it would be kind of fun to try my hand at trying to, well…illustrate something via computer. I’m not really sure why I chose this particular image of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s, Moulin Rouge: La Goulue. I mean, yes, I”m obsessed with the movie Moulin Rouge and intrigued and star struck with French culture, so maybe that’s why…or maybe the poster was on my mind because I have it in my bathroom and see it every freaking day.  Who knows.

I thought it would be interesting to take the actual image and add texture to the poster. In between actual clients and projects I would slowly work on it, that is, if I wasn’t busy doing something else, hence why it took so freaking long to finish. I also was going to do my own version of the type treatment, but decided to keep it off of this version, so I could see the situation as texture and feeling rather than having type interfere with actual perception of what was going here. Maybe in a few months or years, I”ll post a new one with my type treatment. But I wouldn’t hold your breath. Cheers and keep your noses clean!
