Are You Ready To Rock?

This July I was contacted by Kristin to redesign her website. At the time I was a bit swamped with a few other freelance projects and was contracting with a local ad firm. I was beat and mentally exhausted, as one would be after working 14 hour days all week long, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to see what this “Kristin Chalmers” was all about. So I headed to her website.

I fell instantly in love with her amazing and rich photography, and after I met up with her for dinner and drinks, I fell in love with her personality. She seemed so out of the box and so freaking AWESOME that I felt I HAD to take this opportunity’s. So I pleaded and asked if she could wait a month or two until I got my other projects under wraps… and she said she would wait for me…what more could I ask for in a client?!

I found after I talked to her, that she liked the style of my website, and wanted that retro/vintage edge for her site as well. So I did my research and we created inspirational boards, and came up with three mock’s for her website, but something wasn’t quite sitting right with me. I didn’t have that gut feeling about any of them, so I decided to pop out another one in the wee hours of the morning, and I am certainly glad I did, because she ended up with the fourth design.

The entire design is based off of strong paper texture, obviously… (especially Kristin’s love for butcher paper). I also really wanted to push my experience with Showit, and have the users really interact with the elements on the page. I had a lot of fun with this project. I got to do my worn and torn look, which is a rare thing with clients.  I even got to take it WAY back to my editing days and edit the kick ass voice mail blurbs at the beginning of the site, which was a BLAST! When you use the power of Google voice and Garage Band you can do wonders!

Kristin was amazing and great to work with, and had so many awesome ideas. It may sound cheesy but I think I just had a client turn into a friend! (Grabbing some Kleenex right now). Thanks Kristin for being freaking BRILLIANT, patient, and awesome! Check out her kick ass site and photography in live action right here yo!
